Trainspotting 2: Is the soundtrack set to match the original?

Words by Jack Williams

Trainspotting 2 is set to hit cinemas in January of next year and the early anticipation from the recent trailer is that Danny Boyle has worked his magic once again.

Asides the deep dark story of the original and the nutcase himself Begbie, their was also something else which added to the masterpiece, the music.

Artists from Iggy Pop to Blur could all be heard from the 1996 release, Oasis could have even featured had they not thought the film was about trains.

It was a mixture of 90’s indie and rock, combined with the heavy bass and synth of 90’s disco, so are we to expect sounds from today to feature in the upcoming release?

Well yes and no. No because Iggy Pop’s “Lust For Life” and Underworld’s “Born Slippy” have both featured on the teaser trailer, suggesting that they’re included in the new movie. However, Wolf Alice’s “Silk” is also heard which could suggest a balance of both old and new material.

Who should feature on the T2 soundtrack?

The balance required for this is essential; dance music (which is likely to be included) could possibly feature with the likes of Disclosure, Calvin Harris and maybe even Skrillex featuring?

But, for the scenes where we see Begbie no doubt having a nice scrap for having his drink spilt, heavy, punk/rock artists such as Slaves or someone like Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes would set the scene perfectly.

The grime scene cannot be ignored, the rise of the genre over the past three years has been incredible; Wiley, Skepta, JME, Lethal Bizzle, you name one and they’ve played a humongous part in the rise of grime. Don’t be shocked if you hear anyone of these artists being played in the new release.

For some added Scottish grit add Biffy Clyro, CHVRCHES or Franz Ferdinand, potentially?

Whatever may get featured, we all know Danny Boyle won’t disappoint with his selection of music and the film itself.

In celebration of the second film coming, you can now get the original soundtrack on vinyl. That’s definitely something we’re hoping to find in our stockings come christmas day.
